Weekend Quick Hits

5th June, 2016

Liam Smith is possibly a better fighter than Jermall Charlo and certainly better than Jermell, who was easily outboxed by John Jackson before catching him. However it's all very well saying that, but "Beefy's" title reign has been amongst the poorest in recent memory. We need to see Frank Warren get a big fight for Smith next and we need to find out how he really mixes it with the cream of his division.

Another Warren fighter, Terry Flanagan's upcoming defense against Mzonke Fana Is pretty embarrassing, Fana has been decent in the past but hasn't done anything of late to earn a title shot.

Tyson Fury's win over Wladimir Klitschko was a huge surprise to the world and to me. With the rematch only a couple of weeks away, I'd probably be equally surprised by another Fury win. Klitschko to outbox and stop Fury in the mid to late rounds for me.

New WBC Cruiserweight Champion Tony Bellew wants to fight David Haye, a semi retired joke. David Haye wants to fight Shannon Briggs, a semi retired joke. These are the times we live in. For the record I have been and remain a Haye fan, but the path of his comeback so far (take no risks then cash out with a fight against Joshua or Fury) is disappointing at best. Who would I like to see Haye fight? A Bryant Jennings level opponent, then Luis Ortiz.

We expected a war with Francisco Vargas and Orlando Salido , they did not let us down. I felt a draw was a fair result and I don't think anyone will be against a rematch later in the year. This fight showcased a lot of the good in boxing.

Muhammed Ali tributes are well deserved, he was a great boxer and a great man. There's nothing that I can say that others have not already said.
